Foilboard Insulation

Foilboard Insulation is an Australian-made rigid reflective insulation solution for walls, roofs, ceilings, underfloor applications, sheds and specialist builds. Foilboard Green panels combine a fire-retardant EPS core with pure aluminium foil facing on both sides, providing effective thermal insulation in a slim, lightweight and durable panel.

No Gap Insulation supplies a range of Foilboard insulation panels, fixings, tapes and accessories for residential, commercial and trade projects. Why Choose Foilboard Insulation

  • Reflective foil facing — bounces radiant heat away before it enters the building envelope, keeping interiors cooler in summer and warmer in winter
  • Fire-retardant EPS core — rigid, lightweight, and easy to cut and handle on site
  • Non-permeable moisture barrier — the foil facing doubles as a vapour barrier, helping manage condensation in line with NCC condensation management requirements
  • Genuine thermal break — slimline profile creates a continuous thermal break across walls, roofs and floors
  • Documented R-value — every panel and thickness comes with a tested R-value so you know exactly what thermal resistance you're buying
  • Immediate weatherproofing — installed on externally framed walls, Foilboard lets internal trades proceed without waiting on brickwork or cladding
  • Fast, straightforward installation — no special tools required beyond a sharp knife, water-based adhesive and aluminium jointing tape
  • Doesn't break down in wet or windy site conditions during the build
  • Acoustic benefits — helps dampen sound transfer when installed with plasterboard or cladding
  • Backed by a long-term performance guarantee, reflecting confidence in decades of Australian manufacturing since 1991

Applications

Foilboard's slimline, rigid design makes it suitable across almost every part of a build:
Application How Foilboard performs
Wall insulation Fits behind cladding or brick veneer to reduce heat transfer through external walls
Roof insulation Reflects radiant heat before it enters the roof cavity
Ceiling insulation Suits standard and cathedral ceilings where bulky batts are hard to fit
Underfloor insulation Stops cold air rising through timber flooring
Commercial insulation Scales to warehouses, sheds and industrial fit-outs
Specialist builds Popular for caravans, vans, sheds and DIY conversions thanks to its light weight and fast install time
For maximum thermal and acoustic performance, Foilboard is commonly installed in combination with insulation batts — the rigid panel handles radiant heat and air sealing, while batts add bulk thermal resistance.

Panel Sizes, Thicknesses & R-Values

Foilboard panels are available in multiple sheet sizes and thicknesses to suit different R-value and application requirements.— from lightweight sarking-style applications through to higher R-value panels for wall, roof and ceiling builds. Because pricing and R-value scale with thickness, it's worth matching the panel to your specific climate zone and NCC compliance requirement rather than defaulting to the thinnest option. Browse individual product listings above for exact thickness, R-value and pricing per panel.

Installation Notes

Foilboard is designed for quick, simple installation, but sequencing matters:
  1. Install after the frame, bracing, roof, fascia, flashing, windows and plumbing are complete
  2. Fix panels using a water-based adhesive suited to EPS
  3. Seal every join with aluminium tape to maintain an airtight, weathertight barrier
  4. Leave electrical wiring until after the panels are installed
  5. Cut with a sharp utility knife, scoring and snapping thicker panels in multiple passes
Getting the air gap and jointing right is what separates a panel performing at its rated R-value from one that isn't — if you're unsure, our team can talk you through the spec for your specific application.

Foilboard vs Traditional Bulk Insulation

Unlike traditional batts or bulk insulation, Foilboard's slimline rigid profile takes up less cavity space while providing a thermal break and non-permeable moisture barrier. Its rigid construction means it won't sag or compress like some bulk insulation products, and it's fibre-free — helping provide a cleaner installation environment. For best results, many builders combine both: Foilboard as the rigid outer layer and batts for additional bulk thermal resistance.
