What Is Earthwool Insulation?

Earthwool insulation is a glasswool insulation range manufactured by Knauf Insulation for thermal and acoustic applications in Australian homes and buildings. Earthwool products use ECOSE® Technology, a bio-based binder technology, and are made using up to 80% recycled glass. Earthwool insulation is available in different products and R-values for applications including ceilings, walls, acoustic insulation, underfloors and multi-use areas. The range is designed to help reduce heat transfer, improve thermal comfort and absorb unwanted sound. One of the distinguishing features of Earthwool is its soft-to-handle formulation. ECOSE® Technology uses a bio-based binder with no added formaldehyde, while the glasswool fibres provide the insulation's thermal and acoustic properties.

At No Gap Insulation, we stock selected Earthwool products for residential and commercial insulation projects, with options available across different R-values and applications.

Why Choose Earthwool?

Thermal Performance

Earthwool insulation helps reduce heat transfer through ceilings, walls and floors, helping maintain more comfortable indoor temperatures. Different R-values are available so the insulation can be selected according to the application and required level of thermal resistance.

Acoustic Performance

Earthwool SoundShield products are designed for acoustic applications, helping absorb unwanted sound and reduce noise transfer through suitable walls and other building areas.

Soft and Easy to Handle

Earthwool is designed with a soft-to-touch formulation that produces less dust and itch than traditional glasswool products. This can make cutting, handling and installing the insulation more comfortable when the manufacturer's installation instructions and appropriate protective equipment are followed.

Non-Combustible

Earthwool glasswool insulation is non-combustible when tested to AS 1530.1. This provides an important fire-performance characteristic for insulation used in appropriate building applications.

Non-Combustible

Earthwool products are made using up to 80% recycled glass. Combined with ECOSE® Technology, this gives Earthwool an environmental profile that is an important consideration for many building projects.

No Added Formaldehyde

ECOSE® Technology uses a bio-based binder with no added formaldehyde. Earthwool is also naturally brown and does not require artificial colouring to achieve its appearance.

Earthwool Insulation by Application

Earthwool is available in different products and R-values for a range of insulation applications. Choose the product category based on where the insulation will be installed and the thermal or acoustic performance required.

Earthwool Ceiling Insulation

Earthwool ceiling insulation is available in R-values from R3.5 to R8.0. Higher R-value products provide greater resistance to heat transfer and can be selected according to the requirements of the project.

Earthwool Wall & Acoustic Insulation

Earthwool wall products include standard thermal options as well as SoundShield products designed for acoustic applications. Current products cover options from R2.0 through to R4.0 HD, depending on the specific product.

Earthwool Underfloor Insulation

Earthwool wall products include standard thermal options as well as SoundShield products designed for acoustic applications. Current products cover options from R2.0 through to R4.0 HD, depending on the specific product.

Earthwool Multi-Use Insulation

Earthwool is available in different products and R-values for a range of insulation applications. Choose the product category based on where the insulation will be installed and the thermal or acoustic performance required.

Earthwool R-Value Options

Earthwool insulation is available in different R-values depending on the application and product. The R-value measures an insulation material's resistance to heat transfer, with a higher R-value generally providing greater thermal resistance.

Application Earthwool R-value range
Ceiling R3.5 – R8.0
Wall R2.0 – R2.0 HD
Wall & acoustic R2.5 HD – R4.0 HD
Underfloor R2.5
Multi-use R2.5

The right R-value depends on the area being insulated, available installation space, the required thermal or acoustic performance and the requirements of the building. A higher R-value is not automatically the right choice if the product is unsuitable for the application or does not fit the available space.

Choosing the Right Earthwool Product

When selecting Earthwool insulation, start with the application, then consider the required R-value, product dimensions, coverage and whether thermal or acoustic performance is the main priority.
